Recently, Liberate RVA was on the news at WRIC Channel 8. And if you watch from the 2:28 mark, you’ll find the caption underneath say: “Moderate RVA Protestor.” We just wanted to make it clear that Liberate RVA is not about protesting. You can if you want to. But it will accomplish nothing. You’ll only end up getting yourself arrested, injured, or worse, shot – murdered.
Protesting implies concessions, compromises, or deals. And there are no compromises when it comes to freedom. There are no exceptions to violence.
Liberate RVA is a freedom movement against the occupation of violence in our community. And not just about state violence, but the violence we do to each other, the violence we do to children.
It’s a freedom movement that does not require permits, camping gear, or marching protests, because it can take place where ever you are at this very moment, i.e., at a cafe, on a sidewalk, in the privacy of your own living room.
It’s a freedom movement that can never be made illegal, shut down, or destroyed, because the State can never stop you and I from simply talking about freedom with each other.
It’s a freedom movement that liberates our community from the idea that violence will set us free.
